We’re finally back from the Merchant Advisory Group’s Annual Mid-Year Conference, and what a week it was! We thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine down in Ft. Lauderdale and, even more than that, had a great time connecting with friends and colleagues, both new and old.
Overall, the conference was enjoyable, entertaining and highly informative. Tara Lavelle, Senior Vice President, Marketing at Cardinal and Chandra Balasubramanian, Co-Founder, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, delivered a presentation and facilitated an educated discussion, respectively, during the week.
The topic of the discussion that Chandra facilitated was Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the impact it will have on the digital payments community going forward. Since we often operate at the intersection of technology and commerce, we consider this to be a very important area in the industry, and one that will have a largely positive impact in the future for merchants, issuers and consumers.
While Chandra focused on the specificity of AI and its impact on the larger digital payments ecosystem, Tara focused on the entire digital payments world, specifically the rate at which this exciting industry is changing. This presentation was very well received, as it touched on the evolution of digital payments, from the early 2000s up to today.
We all know that many things have changed since the dawn of the millennium, especially in this space, however, this presentation revealed just how much will still change in the coming years. In just one short year, there will be many more smart devices in the homes of consumers, which will lead to a substantial increase in the amount of digital commerce sales in the following years.
But the proliferation of these devices, and the explosion of digital commerce, will place an enhanced importance on digital security and authentication. Consumers want to exist in a digital sphere where convenience and security converge to create the optimal experience, which is what we can provide. This, along with the overall growth of the entire digital commerce market, was the overarching message of this presentation.
All in all, we had a great week down in South Florida at MAG, and we hope that everyone else in attendance feels the same way. But now that it’s over, and with tradeshow season underway, it’s time to look forward to the next big event on the calendar, MRC Vegas 2019. See everyone there!
