Consumer Trends to Expect for Holiday Season 2015

The National Retail Federation conducted its annual Holiday Consumer Spending Survey. The key finding was that shoppers are expect to do 46.1% of their holiday shopping online, up from 44.4% in 2014. (http://cardnotpresent.com/news/default.aspx?id=12351) Total online sales are projected to be up 11% since last year, totaling $83 billion, according to Adobe. It is also thought that Cyber Monday is set to rake in a record $3 billion this year, up from $2.65 billion in 2014. (http://www.slideshare.net/adobe/2015-holiday-shopping-prediction)

There will be an uptick in mobile device usage. 

Smartphone shoppers spent 233% more in Q3 2015 than Q3 2014 according to Internet Retailer. This bodes well for this year’s holiday shopping season. Consumers, looking for the convenience of shopping online and on their phones, are leaning more and more on their various devices, especially as they multi-task through the holiday season. Mobile will drive majority of shopping traffic for the first time at 51% of total volume. It is expected that smartphone use will continue to grow this holiday season. With that, iOS is predicted to drive the majority of mobile traffic.

In his free time, Mike enjoys fishing on Lake Erie, is a history fanatic and also is a published author.
